Behind the Lyrics

Wendell Rocky Adams · In his own words

“High Noon” is personal to me. I wanted the lyrics to speak to those moments when life feels hopeless—a relationship ends, you lose your job, or something happens that makes you wonder why you should keep trying. It’s about finding the strength to stand up and face what’s happening.

I struggled to find a phrase that captured that feeling until I came across an old Western and heard “high noon showdown.” That was it: a showdown with the part of yourself that wants to give up. Once I had that image, the lyrics came together.

Lyrics by Wendell Rocky Adams

[Verse 1] Six a.m., no sleep again Same four walls closin’ in TV glow, dead of night Tryin’ just to feel alright Mirror shows a ghost of me Not the man I wanna be Every road I tried to run Led me here to face the sun [Pre-Chorus] Tickin’ like a loaded clock Every second, one more shot No more runnin’, nowhere to hide It’s me and me on either side [Chorus] High noon… do or die Starin’ down the war inside my mind High noon… hear the truth I ain’t goin’ down… I refuse High noon… don’t fade away One more breath, one more day High noon… break through I walk away alive… from my high noon [Verse 2] On the edge, I feel it now Don’t know when, don’t know how Voices say “just let it go” But somethin’ in me says “no” Hands still shake, heart still pounds Silence screams without a sound If I fall, I rise again This ain’t where my story ends [Pre-Chorus] Every scar, every bruise Still got somethin’ left to lose No more runnin’, nowhere to hide It’s me and me on either side [Bridge] Whoa—hold on, don’t let go Whoa—fight back, take control Whoa—right here, right now I won’t back down [Final Chorus] High noon… do or die Starin’ down the war inside my mind High noon… hear the truth I ain’t goin’ down… I refuse High noon… don’t fade away One more breath, one more day High noon… break through I walk away alive… from my high noon © Wendell Rocky Adams 2026.
