I wanted to write breakup lyrics about trying your hardest to make a relationship work, then having to accept that it’s over. It’s about finding the strength to walk away when that’s the last thing you want to do.

The title came next. “Lay It To Rest” captured the idea of burying those feelings and mourning the loss—like a funeral for the relationship. You’re saying goodbye to something you wanted to keep.
